Let's Go To The Fair!

It's Fair time in our neck of the woods! The kids and I went today and had a blast. 4 hours of animals, games, and junk food. What more can you ask for?

My favorite is checking out all the animals. Cows, horses (draft horses, ponies, and every size in between), chickens, rabbits, goats, sheep. Somehow we missed the pigs though??

There are always lots of babies at the Fair, much to Alice's delight. This was a cute little filly. Momma horse was a bit protective and didn't want us to get too close. Rows and rows of cows. The kids kept asking if they could pet them. We found a few of the 4-H kids who were nearby and they let us pet some of the cows.

May look like just a bunch of cow behinds to you, but this was one of the coolest things at the Fair. We stood for a long time watching the dairy cows as they were milked. The kids were pretty fascinated to watch the milk sucked in to the little tube, in to a pipe, and in to the next room with the big tanks to cool the milk. It was great. We were told it takes 3 to 4 minutes to milk a cow. The cows in our county are milked 3 times a day, unlike where Dan comes from - 2 times a day is standard. We have big milk producers here. Here's a little trivia - our county has the highest per cow producing herd in the nation. Impressive!

When Henry was 2 and 3 and we went to the Fair - the only (ONLY) thing he wanted to do was sit on each and every single John Deere. And that's what we did. This year that was entertaining for about 15 minutes - then we moved on. But it still brought back a lot of memories for me.

In addition to the animals and the farm equipment, there were some fun games and activities for kids. There was a science exploration center that had all these cool activites. The kids loved this one where they got to hold a ball above a hole that was blowing air, causing the ball to be suspended in the air. Great fun.

What's a Fair without ice cones? Oh yeah, and elephant ears. And cotton candy. And "Moowiches" (for those of you not from around here - that's an ice cream sandwich wrapped in 2 chocolate chip cookies - pure heaven).
As we were leaving, Henry made sure I caught a photo of the huge Legos display.
