Smashing Pumpkins On A Wet, Cold Day

It was wet and it was cold, but that didn't stop me from joining Alice's kindergarten class on their pumpkin patch field trip.

After an unusually warm Summer and Fall, many of the pumpkins in our county were ripe early. Now that it's late October, most are mushy. The kids had a great time smashing pumpkins.
Then it was back to the tent to pick a non-mushy pumpkin. It's the end of the season and the farmer said they could pick any pumpkin they wanted. There were some huge ones, 50 to 70 lbs, but Alice chose this one. I like it! We were also entertained by flying pumpkins. This isn't the best photo, but I have to show it. Dan really wants to build his own trebuchet so he'll be jealous he wasn't with us today.
The kids got to go for a ride in a little green train, pulled by a John Deere.
After lunch, they played at the playground. It was freezing. The rain/sleet was really coming down and it was 37 degrees. Brrrr.. Such hardy WA kids!
A fun (and wet) day, had by all.
