As a 2nd year Webelo, Henry is "troop shopping" for the Boy Scout troop he'll join next February. He attended Webeloree last Fall and got to camp with multiple Boy Scout troops, he has attended individual Boy Scout troop weekly meetings, and he's gone on various outings with different troops. Henry has it narrowed down to three troops he really likes and was excited to attend a Snow Outing with one of them today, up at Mt. Baker.
As a Cub Scout, parents are very (very!) involved. Attending meetings, outings, and every single campout. The boys aren't allowed to go on overnights without parents when they're Cub Scouts - but Boy Scouts is a whole new ball game. Because they were going with a local Boy Scout troop, today was really the first big outing for Henry's Cub Scout den where parents weren't required to attend. So, this morning I sent him out the door with his den leader (whom I absolutely trust) and off they went to Mt. Baker.
The boys went sledding and they also built snow caves.

They happened to pick the snowiest day we've had in a long time. I just checked Mt Baker's snow report and it says they've had 22 inches in the last 24 hours. Wow!
There are several more fun outings planned with various Boy Scout troops - next up is a campout (sans parents) in April which will include: "archery, orienteering, climbing wall, tomahawks, fire making, sharps, lashings, and much more." Now we're gettin' to the good stuff!
