Girl Scouts Rock!

There are five skills learned and practiced by Girl Scouts when selling cookies - goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills, and business ethics.  Each year when preparing for Girl Scout cookie sales, I encourage the girls in my troop to choose how they want to spend the money they will earn - this helps them with goal setting, decision making, and money management.

For the second year in a row, my girls decided to spend a small portion of the money they earn on themselves (we're going on a horseback riding adventure in May), a small portion of the money will be saved in the troop account for supplies, and more than 60% of the money will be spent on "helping others."   This year, we far surpassed our sales goal and were able to purchase a long list of items for the local Humane Society and the pediatric floor of the hospital.   We shopped at Target, and they generously donated an additional 10% to our cause.

Today was shopping day!  A few of the girls weren't able to be there, but these five were successful at finding just what they came for.

 Who knew it was such fun to pick out dog toys?

 The girls also had a great time choosing the very coolest Hot Wheels.

 Our two carts were loaded and Target had to open up a special check-out lane just for us.

Half the fun was shopping and the other half will be donating everything we bought.  We'll be making a trip to the Humane Society in a couple weeks to deliver all these goodies.

 And a trip to the hospital to deliver all these awesome toys, books, crafts, and games.

I'm very proud of my Girl Scout troop.   They continue to amaze me with their generosity and commitment to helping others.   They know the Girl Scout Law and each one has dedicated herself to being friendly and helpful, considerate and caring, and making the world a better place.
