Alice turned seven today.
A girl that grown up deserves a big kid room. Her birthday present from us was a new bedroom - new paint, quilt, curtains, decorations. She was so excited to come home from school and see her new room.
We opened presents. She's "The Great One." Henry's "The Pain."
I'm so grateful for Skype. Even though Dan's up in Alaska, he's a significant part of our day. The kids eat breakfast with him each morning, talk to him when they get home from school, and get to have a goodnight conversation. Today, Skype even came in handy for opening birthday presents. Glad Dan got to be part of the celebration.
After the kids got out of school, we headed on down to Skagit County to see the daffodils. That's right... no tulips this year. At least not for another month or so. But the daffodils were amazing.
I love that this is our annual outing on Alice's birthday. Tulips, daffodils, crocus... whatever is in bloom... we'll take it!
These flowers smelled like honey and Henry, Merrick, and Alice couldn't resist the smell.
The display gardens, which will be beautiful in April with tulips, were a great place to run.
My happy, birthday girl.
Then we headed back up towards home and spent some time at the beach before going out to dinner at the Shrimp Shack - our favorite.
To end the day, Alice Skyped with Dan and talked to Grandma, Grandpa, and Uncle Jay. Aunt Elise, Evan, Zane, Len, and Jean Skyped us and it was great seeing their smiling faces as they sang Happy Birthday.
A big day! But the celebration isn't over yet... stay tuned for the friend birthday party tomorrow.

Happy Birthday "Great One!!"
So cool that Dan can have breakfast with the kids every morning! That must make the distance much more bearable, though admittedly, not ideal. Glad to see Alice had such a great day - and what a cool present. Way to go, mom! ;)
