Jump, Ski, Then Jump Again

Dan is home from Alaska and he took the boat out of storage within the first 60 minutes of his feet hitting Washington soil.  The kids were thrilled!  They even slept in the cuddy cab, in our driveway, last night.

Today was a perfect day to take it out on Lake Whatcom.  Oh, happy day.
We went faster and the smiles got bigger.
When we finally stopped for a swim, both kids skinnied into their wet suits.  It was warm, but not warm enough to go without.

Henry jumped off the back of the boat.
And he jumped off the front of the boat.
Alice stuck to the back of the boat.  There's something about jumping off the front that's still a little intimidating to her.
We brought the tubes and we brought the pump for the tubes, but we didn't bring the right size adapter for the pump.  Dang it!  So, no tubes but we tried water skis instead.    The kids were both a little leary of trying skis for the first time, but they did it.  Dan gave them a lot of tips and coaching in the boat and we warned them both to not give up - no matter how natural you might be, nobody gets up on their very first try.   You have to keep on trying.
Alice was Henry's "ski coach" as he got ready in the water.
We got her in the boat and we were ready to give Henry a go.
 Relax, relax, wait for it.
Bend the knees, keep the tips up.
And face-first into the water.
Henry did a great job.  I was really proud of him for trying but he was ready to come in the boat after a few tries.

Then it was Alice's turn.
Her little legs weren't quite strong enough.  She had a tough time keeping the tips up and kept flipping over on her side before we could even get the tension out of the line.  But she kept on trying.
 Almost there.
 And down.
She came back to the boat smiling after three tries.  Very proud of her.
 Henry gave it another go.
But still didn't get too far.   That's okay... there will be many more opportunities to learn.  I'm just glad they gave it a try.
But let's face it....  At this age, the most fun is jumping off the side of the boat.
