Steady Drumbeat

Henry's Cub Scout troop is in the process of earning the Leave No Trace award. To fulfill one of the requirements, we went on a five mile hike today, to Fragrance Lake. It was a lovely hike, through a densely forested and ferned area. One guidebook described it thus:

"It's a two mile hike up to the lake through shaded forest. 'Up' is an aptly chosen directive. Some would say 'steep' but it's more of a steady-drumbeat-of-an-ascent to the 1100' elevation."

But we made it and we were rewarded with a great spot for a lunch break before taking the mile long loop around the lake and heading back down the trail, in the rain, to the trailhead.
It's fun participating in Scout events with the kids. We're lucky to live in an area with so many cool places to explore.
