That's What Friends Are For

Almost two years ago when Dan was in the hospital, I was overwhelmed with the kindness of friends. All the offers of help, the shoulders to cry on, the support - it was just amazing. Through all of it, the help which was the most needed was knowing that someone was caring for the kids when I couldn't be with them. That Henry and Alice were safe and happy and I could be with Dan knowing they were okay.

Today, the tables were turned. Our good friends and neighbors, Jill and Rich, are dealing with their own medical emergency. Their son is with us. All of us are happy to have him here and glad that we can ease one worry from Jill and Rich during this time. That's what friends are for, right?

It was a beautiful day and Dan left work early to take the boys to a go-kart track. Turns out that the first track they went to was the "serious track." The karts on this track can go up to 40 mph! Helmets required...

The boys got to sit in the karts.

But that's where the fun ended. You have to be 12 yrs old, and sign an extensive release form, to race at this track.

So, they went to the "fun track" and the boys had a blast.

Looks like they were still going pretty fast!

After dinner, they set up the tent for the night.

Then they were ready to settle in to their sleeping bags.

Such nice boys! They even let Alice join them. And, Merrick brought along his laptop - awesome!

Look at that - we actually manged to set up the rain fly the correct way this time around. So that's what that extra pole was for!

I'm off to tuck Henry, Alice, and Merrick in to their sleeping bags. My thoughts are with Jill and Rich tonight. Sending healing thoughts their way and hoping for the best.
