Exploding Squash

Today, we took Dan's Mom down to the annual Pumpkin Pitch. I didn't manage to take a great photo to capture the event. The best I got was this photo which shows one of the pitch machines - basically, a pumpkin was loaded, they pulled the arm way back, and let 'er fly. And some of those pumpkins flew and flew.

There was also a zucchini vehicle race for the kids. They got to choose their zucchini, punch holes in it, saw off the bottoms, insert sticks, and add apples and gourds for wheels. Quite the project! Henry and Merrick, with their masterpieces.
They decided they didn't want to race them - those that went down the ramp were smashed up. Instead, they brought their cars home - Henry's and Alice's are now decorating our flower beds in the front yard.

It was a fun way to spend a sunny afternoon.
