Second only to the zipline adventure was our horseback riding adventure. We went north to the Pemberton Valley, which although it is just 30 minutes away from Whistler, is an entirely different world. It's much more focused on agriculture than skiing and pretty in a valley farm country sort of way. It was a perfect place to ride horses.
Alice has only ridden a small pony one time before this. I wasn't quite sure if she could manage anything bigger.
But she got this beautiful horse, Tully, and did just fine.
All the horses were beautiful. Not the old tired out trail horses I was expecting - these were gorgeous quarter horses, young enough to still have a lot of spunk and individual personality.
Henry had one of the prettiest horses, Lucky. Just the week before, our guide, Belinda, had ridden him in a barrel riding competition. Spunk!
Gary had Flash. Our East coast cowboy - once every ten years in the saddle, and he still looks like a natural. :-)
Once we were all saddled up A to Z - Alice was in the lead and Zane brought up the end - we rode off into this meadow.
What a day!
Before long, we went into the forest and starting gaining elevation. Remember how I said that Alice's horse still had some personality? Well, Tully's personality was all about persistence and getting to the food. She would reach over to get a bite of grass, Alice would pull the reins and give her a kick. She would reach over to get a bite of grass, Alice would pull the reins and give her a kick. I think Alice worked harder than anyone on this trip. "Come on Tully! Back on the trail!"
What a nice trip. We really had fun.
We went up, up, up the mountain. I think it was about 300 meters in elevation gain.
A beautiful view of the valley was a good reward for these two kids. They were quite happy with themselves.
Alice, with Lucky. Such a pretty horse.
Yee ha!
So happy to share this day with my kiddos.
